Meet the Board of Directors and Committees

  • The board serves as the governing body and steering group for the Friends insofar as setting the annual goals and agenda, setting fundraising targets, ensuring that the Friends adhere to legal and ethical requirements and guidelines, advocating on behalf of the Friends and the Library, and enhancing the standing of the Friends within the community.

The Board has the power to conduct the affairs of the Friends, including establishing committees, the appointment or election of additional officers, and the filling of vacancies.

It is comprised of the President, Treasurer, Secretary and four (4) Members at large.

The Board meets on the 1st Thursday of every month at 10 a.m.

  • The bookstore committee consists of a group of volunteers who help organize and run the Mary Quinton Bookstore at Tufts Library. Members are there during the bookstore hours and also help collect gently used books and CDs that are sold during bookstore hours and the monthly book sale. This is a major entity for raising money for the programs the Friends support.

The Committee meets on the 2nd Monday of every other month at 9:30 AM.

  • The communications committee establishes a presence online through the website and social media. Currently, committee volunteers use Squarespace, Instagram, Facebook, and Mail Chimp as a means of communication. They use these platforms to reach both members and the larger Weymouth community to provide information and periodic updates as well as to garner additional interest in the Friends.  By having an online presence and writing newsletters we’re able to build a broader range of demographics for the Friends. This committee is always looking for new ways to use the current platforms and expand to other marketing tools.

This committee meets remotely every month.

  • The fundraising committee is a group of volunteers who help create and identify donation opportunities as well as event and fundraising campaigns to raise money to support the programs of the Weymouth libraries and fund the operation and financial stability of the Friends group. They also identify community service projects that support the larger Weymouth community. One example is book donations to the Weymouth public primary schools.

The Committee meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM.

  • The Membership Committee volunteers develop strategies and campaigns and run the Friends’ Annual Membership drive to help maintain and bring in new memberships for our group. They develop new membership prospect lists, ways we can engage with members, and annual membership goals.

The Committee meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month (September - January) at 10:00 AM.
